A Community I Didn't Know I Needed

I had been asking God to show me my community because I had just left behind many of my old friends. I was in a season of isolation—a time when it was just me and God. I prayed and asked Him to lead me to the community He wanted me to be a part of.

On one Wednesday morning, while working a job fair, I was casually scrolling on my phone and stumbled across The UpHer Room Instagram page. I read the bio, saw the pictures, and immediately thought, God, this looks like something I would love to be a part of. I noticed they held weekly Zoom Bible studies, so that very week, I decided to join. On the call, I met two amazing women, one of them was Bennie.

From that first Zoom call, everything started to change. I was introduced to other women in my city and even realized Bennie and I attended the same church! The UpHer Room became the community I had prayed for—a place where I could connect with women who genuinely care for each other and walk with God.

This community has changed my life in ways I never imagined. At a time when I felt lonely and unsure of how to build new friendships, The UpHer Room gave me a safe space to grow, to be vulnerable, and to do life with women who support one another without judgment. It’s inspiring to know we are all walking through different challenges, yet we’re carried by the same faithful God.

Through this group, I’ve learned that it’s possible to live a life wholly dedicated to God without compromising. I’ve been encouraged to grow into the woman God has called me to be. I’m still learning, and still growing, and I can’t wait to see how The UpHer Room continues to impact the lives of others, just as it has impacted mine.
